After witnessing the new adventures of characters like Wanda, Loki, Falcon, and the Winter Soldier, it is the turn of an unknown hero who has everything it takes to become an important addition to this Universe. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings will be the next production that you should not miss and here we tell you everything you need to know about it. The film will be directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, a director who will make his Marvel debut with a film that has generated high expectations since its first trailer.

But who is Shang-Chi? The history of this character dates back to 1973 to the so-called Bronze Age of comics, when he was created by writer Steve Englehart and artist Jim Starlin. Often called the Master of Kung Fu, he is considered the strongest and most skilled human on earth, having managed to defeat several superhumans without using any type of magic.

In this story, we will know much of the beginnings of Shang-Chi, when he was young and had to undergo harsh training by his father and the organization he leads: the Ten Rings. With those memories haunting him in the present, the protagonist will have to defend himself at any cost from the men who work for his father, who fervently wants him to join him. This is how Wenwu, or better known as The Mandarin, enters the scene, which at the time had some mentions during the third installment of "Iron Man".

Also, although nothing official has been said so far,  Dr. Strange may appear in this plot since one of the characters that was confirmed is Wong. On the other hand, during the second trailer, we witnessed the surprise appearance of The Abomination,  the antagonist of the film "The Incredible Hulk" (2008), and who was played by actor Tim Roth.

How the Ten Rings Work

At the time, Marvel had introduced us to the Ten Rings organization as a group of terrorists who collaborated with Obadiah Stane to kidnap Tony Stark . However, in the comics, we see that these rings are actually physical and have special powers, something a bit similar to the Infinity Stones. For this film, we will see in detail how these devices really work.

Starting with the left hand, the ring of the little finger (Zero) is capable of emitting cold waves, as well as launching lightning that freezes an opponent in a block of ice. In the ring finger (The Liar) the psychic power of the user is intensified, allowing to manipulate the minds and the nervous impulses of the brain. The middle ring (Lightning) generates and manipulates discharges of electricity that at higher intensity could be destructive. Rays of heat as powerful as a laser are projected onto the index finger (Incandescence). Finally, the thumb (Daimonic) emits different types of energies capable of creating holograms.

Regarding the right hand, the pinky ring (NightBringer) can create an area of pure darkness capable of absorbing light. The annular (Spectral)  generates a discharge of unknown energy that destroys atoms and molecules. The middle ring (Spin) can generate and control air eddies, as well as vortices to move like the wind. The power in the index (Influence) creates sonic waves that cause disorientation or a variable sonic hit. Finally, the thumb (Remaker) manipulates the atomic and molecular structure of any matter to alter the shape and structure of one object to create another.

An asian cast

The twenty-sixth film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will have for the first time a cast that is mostly of Asian origin. For the beginning of this Phase 4, we will see how the company has opened up to diversity and inclusion both in the themes of the films and in the directors and casts. The diversity of nationalities, as well as the feminine power that we will see in "The Eternals" or "Thor: Love and Thunder", will be a revolution in this world of superheroes.

The cast of this film is headed by Simu Liu, a Chinese-Canadian actor who at the time made his film debut In Guillermo del Toro's "Pacific Rim." This will be his first leading role and he will play Shang-Chi. In turn, Tony Leung's experience will be vital to the plot, as he will play the villain and leader of the Ten Rings organization: The Mandarin. For her part, Nora Lum, or known professionally as Awkwafina, will play Katy, a close friend of Shang-Chi who is unaware of her past.

Part of the cast will also have the talent of the renowned Michelle Yeoh, who already knows what it is like to be part of the Marvel universe by participating in the second installment of "Guardians of the Galaxy." Fala Chen, Meng'er Zhang, Florian Munteanu, Ronny Chieng, as well as Benedict Wong, will complete the list of actors and actresses from Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. We only have to wait until September to be able to enjoy the first adventures of this new Marvel character.
