If you are looking for a plan for this Friday, we have organized a route through which you will know, walking, the 3 most important houses in the history of Colombian independence.

Casa del Florero

Holiday hours: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

This house is in one of the corners of the Plaza de Bolívar, the most important square in Bogotá, the Colombian capital. As the portal Colombiamania reminds us, the house belonged to the Spanish merchant José González Llorente. The Creole Luis de Rubio went on a Friday, market day, when the square was full, to ask if he could borrow a vase from Llorente to receive Antonio Villavicencio, but, as the Creoles were expecting, Llorente refused to lend it. With the vase as an excuse, the Creoles took advantage to put the town against the Spaniards: this was the cry for independence.

In the Casa del Florero (House of the Vase) you will hear this story in greater detail. You will learn about the different heroes of the independence involved, and you will be able to see the vase, which was restored by Johana Moreno from the Externado University in 2008, as El Tiempo reported. In addition, you will have the opportunity to visit one of the best preserved colonial houses in Bogotá.

Casa Museo Quinta de Bolívar

Holiday hours: 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Guided visit: 11 a .m. and 2 p .m.

In a tour about the heroes of independence, you can not miss the Quinta de Bolívar. In this house the liberator Simón Bolívar resided while he was in Bogotá. As the official website of the museum says, "In each of these areas you can find furniture from the late 18th century and the first half of the 19th century. Some pieces are originals of the Liberator and the house itself, others serve as ambience for the different rooms of the house. All are a sample of the daily life and personality of Bolívar, Manuelita Sáenz and the customs that were lived in the time ".

Before going to Quinta de Bolívar, you can visit the window through which El Libertador escaped when he was being chased in Bogotá, which is very close to the Casa del Florero and is also marked on the map.

Museo Casa Natal del General Santander

Holiday hours: 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 m / 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

If you like to walk and still have courage after visiting the Quinta de Bolívar, you can go to the house where Francisco de Paula Santander was born, another father of the country. According to the official website of the museum, "The environment, the gardens and the architecture recall the childhood of General Santander forming an evocative museum with a modern dynamic in the main hall where the visitor relives, through ingenious proposals and interactively, the life and work of the General since his birth, his family, his education, his military action, his relationship with Bolívar, his loves, his cultural activity until his exile and his death".

It is the perfect place to end your day of history.

Recommended places to eat

On the map you can see different restaurants that we recommend from LatinAmerican Post. There are some typical food, such as La Puerta Falsa or Casa Vieja, and others that have a more modern atmosphere and a more international menu, such as the famous Smoking Molly. We hope you enjoy your day and follow our tour.
