Who would replace Cuadrado in Russia 2018?

The pubalgia surgical operation of the Colombian player will take him away from the stadiums for about 2 months

¿Quién reemplazaría a Juan Guillermo Cuadrado?

Precisely, this is the 'Déjà vu' that the Colombians did not want to feel again. Unfortunately, on this occasion, the situation seems to be repeated with another of their figures: Juan Guillermo Cuadrado.

In 2014, it was the player Radamel Falcao García, who despite making all the efforts to return, did not reach the orbital date. Nowadays, the participation of Cuadrado is in doubt for Russia 2018.

The problem in the pubis affected the performance of the player with Juventus since the past December 23. The complication sent him to the operation room this Tuesday, January 30 in Münich, Germany. There, he was successfully operated by Dr. Ulrike Muschaweck.

"When he returns to Italy, the player will immediately begin rehabilitation, and it is currently foreseeable a period of about 30 days for the athletic preparation to begin," Vecchia Signora informed through a press release.

What is pubalgia?

The pubalgia is an injury that commonly affects players, it is the presence of pain in the lower abdomen due to overload in sports activities, although it is also not ruled out by hernias or urinary tract infections.

"It is a painful lesion that appears, usually in patients who have a very overloaded physical activity in some moments, lower train muscle imbalances or any other biomechanical alteration (…) In the pelvis are inserted muscles and tendons that are constantly pulling the bones and its malfunction can cause pain, "explains Dr. Alejandro Orizola, traumatologist at the Department of Sports Medicine, Clínica Las Condes in Santiago de Chile.

Who will replace Cuadrado?

While Cuadrado returns to his 100%, José Néstor Pékerman will have to move his players and start analyzing who can replace Juan Guillermo. The participation of the soccer player will have to be replaced in the friendly duels against France and Australia in March. In case of not reaching the expected recovery, the player may not be part of the World Cup.

Who are the candidates?

In case of retaining the game scheme, the first on the list would be Yimmi Chará. The elusive striker already added minutes in this position and responded to the call of Pekerman. The speed, 'gambeta', change of pace, and association of Chará, characteristics similar to Cuadrado, make him the number one option.

Another alternative, which already worked in the qualifying games, was Luis Muriel. He played against Brazil by that band, along with Macnelly Torres for the center and James Rodriguez for the left. Muriel, who acts as a striker in the Seville of Spain and is sometimes placed as an extreme, is part of the world cup process since Brazil 2014.

Pekerman can also experiment and bet on one of the promises of Colombian football, such as Marlos Moreno, who debuted with Flamengo. His coach Paulo César Carpegiani did not save praises at the end of his performance. Marlos was fundamental for Atlético Nacional in the 2016 Copa Sudamericana, characterized by its overflow and explosion in the band.

Others that can be possible players, who also have had minutes during the World Cup elimination and who can replace Cuadrado's position, would be Matheus Uribe (Atlético Nacional) and Aviles Hurtado (Monterrey of Mexico).

The cards are on the table in case Juan Guillermo Cuadrado does not arrive in optimal conditions to Russia, although in 3 months he would return to the stadiums.

Pékerman would have to observe the possibility of retaining the scheme, which would be more logical, since there is not much left for the World Cup and with that scheme is how Colombia managed to participate in the World Cup. However, Pékerman will be the one who will have the last word.
