The Giro d'Italia, La Vuelta a España and the Tour de France are considered the top events of the year in cycling. However, there are many other countries that could accommodate an event.

A Grand Tour is an event that, according to the rules of the UCI (Union Cycliste Internationale), lasts from 15 to 23 days and a distance that can be up to 3500km. These competitions give more points than all the others in the UCI. The winner of the Tour de France gets 1,000 and the winners of the Tour of Spain and the Giro receive 850 each.
