Christmas is known as the happiest time of the year for some and the most melancholic for others. Therefore, to accompany this time of year, we bring 5 literary recommendations that accommodate different genres and different audiences. Some of these books have a film version, which we also recommend.

"The Polar Express" by Chris Van Allsburg

Although the film directed by Robert Zemeckis – also the author of the saga "Back to the Future" – continues to enjoy high popularity during Christmas, the book, published in 1985 by the American Chris Van Allsburg, is not far behind and became one of the classics of children's literature.

The central axis of the story revolves around a boy who during Christmas gets on a train heading to the North Pole. When the train manages to reach its destination, he learns that Santa Claus will choose one of the train's crew to receive what would be the first gift of that Christmas.

"Hercule Poirot's Christmas" by Agatha Christie

Agatha Christie gave us one of the best detective novels ever made about Christmas. The queen of this genre published this novel in 1938.

During Christmas, the tycoon known as Mr. Lee is assassinated in his mansion after he invited all his children to his house. Hercule Poirot must discover who the murderer is and suspicion falls on each of the family members, but the detective's methods of deduction take an unexpected turn. The novel was listed as one of the best that Agatha Christie wrote.

"Letters From Father Christmas" by JRR Tolkien

Although JRR Tolkien has his name deeply rooted in the sagas of "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit", the writer from South Africa has one of the most important Christmas classics. It is about "Letters From Father Christmas".

The book is made up of each of the letters that the author sent to his children during Christmas, by means of which he pretended to be Santa Claus. The letters were written for 23 years and were published after the writer passed away in 1973.

"Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" and JK Rowling

Although the saga of the most popular magician in literature and cinema is not centered on Christmas, the saga does take place at this time of year most of the time thanks to the end of the year holidays. For this chapter of the saga, the writer JK Rowling introduces us to Sirius Black for the first time.

In fact, during the film's plot, Ron and Hermione cast a spell to hide them from a Christmas tree, while Harry wears his invisibility cloak to overhear the conversation between Hagrid, Professor McGonagall, Cornelius Fudge, Flitwick, and Mrs. Rosmerta who talk about Harry in the bar of Three Broomsticks Inn.

"A Memory Christmas", Truman Capote

This book with three stories from Truman Capote's childhood makes up a masterpiece of storytelling in American literature.

The author who made "Cold Blood", a classic in journalism classes and a guide for those who aspire to be chroniclers, focuses his story on Buddy, the children's version of him to tell these three Christmas memories of his childhood.
