The Junior Pan American Games are one of the most important events of the year for all Latin American athletes. This year, the competition takes place from November 25 to December 5 in the city of Cali, Valle del Cauca, in Colombia. As expected, the coffee-growing country won in several competitions and at the close of this edition, it ranks second with 39 gold medals behind Brazil.

In this article, we want to mention the best performances that Colombia has had in this competition, the records that have been broken, and the athletes that are emerging as the future of our country.

The strongest in Latin America

One competition that the Colombians dominated on this occasion was weightlifting. Colombia was the champion in this competition, with nine medals in total, seven gold, one silver, and one bronze. The athletes Arley Fernando Bonilla, Luis Miguel Quiñónes, Concepción Usuga, Estiven Villar, Julieth Rodríguez, Juan Camilo Martínez and Yeison López won the gold medal this time.

Arley Fernando Bonilla set a new junior Pan American record in the + 109kg category. The young athlete achieved a total mark of 347, with a snatch of 192 kg (which was also another Pan American junior record).

The tough ones of boxing

Besides cycling and soccer, Colombia has always stood out for its great boxers. In these Junior Pan American Games, the boxing tournament concluded with a fairly favorable balance for the country. The Colombian team won three gold medals, two silver, and six bronze.

The boxers Carlos Utria / 63kg), Marlon Hurtado (+ 91kig), and Camila Camilo (+ 60kg) lifted the gold medals this time.

As always, cycling

Track cycling is another discipline in which Colombians never disappoint. The national team concluded a successful presentation with ten gold and three silver medals. The next best country, Mexico, just accumulated two gold medals in this competition.

The Colombians won gold in both team events, pursuit and speed, in the male and female categories. Marianis Salazar Sanchez and Christian David Ortega each won two gold medals in Keirin and speed events. Anderson Arboleda Ruiz and Lina Marcela Hernandez Gomez also won gold medals in individual events.
