Every summer, thousands of clubs around the world take the opportunity to strengthen themselves in the transfer market in order to prepare for a new season. Certainly, those months of negotiations generate enormous expectation among fans, who are eagerly awaiting the arrival of new faces. This 2021 was not the exception and in Europe some interesting movements were generated, where the most expensive Latino signings of the year stand out.

But not everything has been easy in this soccer market, since for the second year in a row clubs have had to adjust financially to the consequences of COVID-19. The aftermath of the pandemic still prevails and both expenses and salary cuts had to be present even in big teams. FC Barcelona cannot have a better example, which had to release Argentine Lionel Messi due to his financial problems.

A Latin market in low hours

If we make a comparison with previous years we will see that the clubs have not offered large amounts of money for Latino players. For the summer of 2019, the Brazilian Éder Militão arrived at Real Madrid for 50 million euros, positioning himself in the sixteenth place of the most expensive of that year -according to the Transfermarkt portal- and well below the Portuguese João Félix who signed for him. Atlético de Madrid for 127 million.

In the following season, and for the same 50 million, Argentine Mauro Icardi landed at PSG to be the eighth most expensive soccer player in a market that was affected by the pandemic . At this point, it should be noted that the German Kai Havertz was the most expensive only by a difference of 30 million, implying that most clubs were forced to safeguard their assets by not being able to generate so much income.

That is why here we bring you the five most expensive Latin signings of the 2021-2022 season in Europe.

Nicolas Gonzalez

Champion of the last Copa América and one of the current promises of Argentine soccer, the 23-year-old attacker will have his first experience in Italian "calcio". During the three seasons he played for German Stuttgart, Nico scored 23 goals and made 10 assits to attract the attention of Fiorentina who signed him for 23.50 million euros.

Emerson Royal and Gerson

Both Brazilians had the opportunity to change of scene in transactions with the same value: 25 million euros. On the one hand, Gerson made the leap from Flamengo to Olympique de Marseille, which is directed by Argentine Jorge Sampaoli. In turn, Emerson lived something curious, since FC Barcelona signed him in July and then sold him days later to Tottenham.

Matheus Cunha

The most expensive Brazilian player this season was this 22-year-old forward. His talent and scoring nose made him known in Germany, where he scored 9 goals for Leipzig and 13 for Herta Berlin last season. Precisely the latter sold Cunha for 30 million euros to Atlético de Madrid, a team that has an enviable offense and looks like a favorite to win LaLiga.

Rodrigo de Paul

One of the Argentine midfielders with the best present did not hesitate to pack his bags to head to Spain. After registering 34 goals and 36 assists during the five seasons in which he was at Udinese, Atlético de Madrid paid 35 million euros for the 27-year-old player to be the driving force behind Diego Simeone's team.

Emiliano Buendía

The 24-year-old Argentine forward is the only one on the list who will continue to play in the same league. From 2018-2019 he was part of Norwich, an English club where he stood out scoring 24 goals and assisting 42 times in more than 100 games. His remarkable performance allowed him to make the leap to Aston Villa, which paid 38.40 million euros to take over his services and make him the most expensive Latino signing this season .
