Cuba: protests decrease, but social tension remains

Cuba has been living since the weekend, perhaps, the protest against the most important regime in recent years. Thousands of citizens, exhausted by the economic crisis, took to the streets asking for everything from food and medicine to democratic freedom.

Experts believe that cutting off the internet, as a method of censorship on the island, has resulted in a decrease in protests, but the situation seems to continue the same. During the week, several international human rights organizations have registered reports of police abuse, from arrests of opposition protesters to cases of disappearances.

For its part, the Government rejects these complaints and begins to take political measures to combat the shortage of food and medicine. This Thursday, the regime lifted the tariffs on these products that are entered by travelers.
