Soccer is a sport where many variables influence. When it comes to thinking, for example, about the best soccer players of each year, the importance they had during the current season is usually taken as a reference. That includes, of course, the goals scored or the role they played in their respective teams in winning championships.

For example, today we see many soccer players who are in competition to obtain the Golden Shoe 2020/2021, as is the case of Robert Lewandowski, Cristiano Ronaldo, and even someone little known, such as Paul Onuachu, with figures of phenomenal goals.

The funny thing is that, sometimes, there are some players who stand out during very specific and momentous moments. That is to say, players who, perhaps, did not have much faith, but ended up demonstrating its importance, although later they could not maintain it. Let's look at the cases of players who scored extremely important goals and then disappeared.

Éder

Perhaps one of the most emblematic cases. The Portuguese forward had been called up for the 2016 European Championship, where his team was champion. The truth is that, at the time, not many people knew him: he was passing through Lille without too many flashes until something happened.

The final against powerful France, which was also local, came in the 79th minute for Renato Sanches. Let's remember that the top figure, Cristiano Ronaldo, had not been able to continue the game due to injury. The tie remained, but in overtime, Eder scored a goal in the 109th minute, which allowed him to win the title.

Currently, little is said about this striker who allowed him to obtain a giant title for the Portuguese nation. What we do know is that he is living through his days at Lokomotiv Moscow of the Russian Premier League at the age of 33. However, he will always be considered a "hero" in that game, no matter what happens next in his career.

Mario Gotze

The executioner of Argentina. In this case, we meet a soccer player who was known, as he had had really fruitful seasons at Borussia Dortmund, managed by Jürgen Klopp. The problem was that, after "touching the sky" at a very young age, he failed to maintain his promising status.

His key moment occurred in the goal against Argentina in the 2014 World Cup Final, where he entered in the 114th minute. No one expected him to be the right person to win the trophy, as he managed to beat Sergio Romero and achieve that your selection gets the highest award at the national level.

For that season he had already been acquired by Bayern Munich, but he failed to settle in the first team. Then he returned to Borussia Dortmund, where they expected him to maintain the same level as before, although that did not happen. Currently 28 years old, he is at PSV de la Eredisivie, where they have faith that he can lead the Dutch team.

Juliano Belleti

The Brazilian defender belonged to a time when Barcelona, although it was a great team, had not conquered the world after the generation of Guardiola, Messi, and company.

However, against Arsenal, in the 2006 Champions League final, he got the nickname "hero of Paris." He scored in the 81st minute of the final, in a highly contested match. No one expected him to be the architect of such a victory.

His career later extended to the Premier League, where he went to Chelsea, although he was a replacement. Later he would go to his native Brazilian league, more specifically at Fluminense and Ceará SC. For the 2011/2012 season he decided to retire, knowing that the chance to appear at the right time can lead to glory for a soccer player.

Fabio Grosso

Can you imagine taking the last penalty in a World Cup final? Well, that's what happened to left-back Fabio Grosso. For the 2006 World Cup, he had been called up and occupied the left-wing of the defense of the team led by Marcello Lippi, where he had to face France in the final.

The truth is that during the contest he was important within the team, but his most decisive moment would occur in the final match. In the penalty shootout, he had to take care of the last shot that turned into a goal. At that time, he was a member of Palermo, but then he went to Inter Milan, Olympique Lyonnais, and Juventus, although he ended up being forgotten.

Did you remember these players who scored decisive goals, but who were forgotten?
