It's clear that The Queen's Gambit is one of Netflix's most successful productions in recent times . Basically, it was a masterful play in streaming, where a fantastic story takes the chessboard as the main "scenario".

Even this series will make you want to know more about the world of chess , either by learning how to play it or by watching similar content. This in the reason we decided to find out which are the best films that base their theme on chess, an exciting sport, but also very strategic.

Searching for Bobby Fischer (1993)

Screenwriter Steven Zaillian, recognized for his role in the prestigious film Schindler's List, made his behind-the-scenes debut in this film. Thus, it is a film that is also a biopic about Josh Waitzkin, whose father wrote the book that this film lucidly adapts.

We are in the presence of a story based on the life of former chess player and child prodigy Joshua Waitzking, played here by Max Pomeranc . It could be defined as a sensitive chronicle of the awakening of the intelligence of this personality, as a result of his attempt to become a world champion in chess.

Hijo de Caín (2013)

This 2013 Spanish play, directed by Jesús Monllaó Plana, is the adaptation of the novel Querido Caín by Ignacio García-Valiño. Basically, the plot consists of a gifted young man, known as Nico and played by David Solans, who only seems to be interested in chess .

His father, Carlos (played by José Coronado), decides to start interpreting his son's emotions and bonds thru the game. All this occurs while the family decides to hire a social psychologist to investigate the secrets of their way of thinking.

Pawn Sacrifice (2014)

Here we have a dramatic and biographical film, which is directed by Edward Zwick. With the leading role of Tobey Maguire, it is a story that is framed in the events of the Cold War , where the aforementioned actor plays Bobby Fischer , a great chess master in history.

This film focuses especially on the legendary match between the chess player and his opponent, Boris Spassky, in Iceland in 1972 . Therefore, it is ideal to understand the basic principles of this discipline, but also to know the emotional and rational sides of these brilliant minds.

The coldest game (2019)

Finally, we have a thriller that was directed by Łukasz Kośmicki. The plot is simple: a mathematician is forced to play a game of chess between the United States and the USSR, while being embroiled in an espionage plot during the Cuban missile crisis in 1962 .

Through all these selected films, we will be able to understand a little more about a game that everyone can enjoy, but in which enormously intelligent personalities also stand out, who take advantage of all their mental virtues to understand the opponent's strategy and make a checkmate .
