Knowing that now more and more users choose to consume content on streaming platforms, several companies fought to gain the rights to this work to create a television series. The winner was Amazon, which competed with HBO and Netflix, who also saw the potential appeal of this fantastic story.

Knowing this, Amazon Prime Video will seek to increase the number of subscribers with this story, which aims to be the “Game of Thrones” of the company. So far, we have some ideas on how the adaptation of this Middle Earth universe will be, so we will tell you below.

What do we know about the Lord of the Rings series?

According to La Nación, the series of The Lord of the Rings already has an official cast. It will be composed of Robert Aramaya, Joseph Mawle and Arkella Kavenagh. They will interpret Beldor, Oren and Tyra, respectively, which will be of key importance throughout the episodes.

The acquisition of rights by Amazon has an extension of up to five seasons. Knowing all this, we can mention that the site Fotogramas comments that these characters will be in the Second Age of Middle-earth, known as the Dark Age.

For those who do not know, it is a period before what happened both in the films of The Lord of the Rings and in The Hobbit. Basically, men occupy the lands of Númenor, where humans cannot have a peaceful relationship with the elves, which leads to a conflict that was later reflected in the original stories.

Another important point will be the setting. According to what HobbyConsolas mentions, the Spanish director Juan Antonio Bayona, who will be in charge of directing the first two episodes of this series, is recording in New Zealand. This site is key to the setting, as the director of the films, Peter Jackson (who will not interfere in this adaptation), had chosen this country as the location of Middle-earth.

What other details do we know?

For those who are concerned about the fidelity of Tolkien's work, they will surely see that this news will be something really positive. According to Hypertextual, this series will respect the canon of the whole story, because it will be supervised by Tolkien Estate, the company in charge of the writer's work.

That is, fans know that the story will follow a logical course of events, without these being distorted by directors' decisions. On the contrary, the narrative of each of the chapters should be backed up according to what Tolkien thought for this stage of his saga.

Although we still do not know the release date of this work, everything seems to indicate that it could come to light in 2021. In relation to what Tomatazos mentions, the first season would have about 20 episodes, something that demonstrates the enormous potential they see in this series. Will it outperform Game of Thrones in popularity?
