On December 8, one of the teams with the most titles in Brazil and a legend in Latin American football, fell to the second division of Brazilian football. In its 98 years of history, Cruzeiro reaped two Libertadores Cups, four leagues from Brazil, six Cups from Brazil and 38 Mineiro championships.

This time, the team lost 0-2 to Palmeiras, a club that was saved from entering Brazil's 'B'. The match, which was played at the Cruzeiro stadium, Governador Magalhães Pinto, had to be suspended over the final due to the wrath of the fans, who threw chairs, bottles and other elements that damaged the performance of the game.

According to Euronews, "law enforcement had to intervene in depth to contain the stands, where numerous fights were recorded and there were widespread damage." The scene also left thousands of fans crying, full of worry and desolation. On the other hand, Cruzeiro joined Alagoano, Chapecoense and Avaí in the second category of Brazilian football.

This is how Cruzeiro is no longer part of the select list of Latin American teams that still survive in the first division and from LatinAmerican Post we show you some of these.

Colo Colo

The only Chilean team that can be given the privilege of having remained in the first division is the Colo Colo. Founded in 1925, it is the team with the most titles in its country, since it has won 32 titles in the First Division; two Super Cups and 11 Cups from Chile.

Due to the situation in Chile, since October the First Division matches have been canceled. According to AnsaLatina, "the mayor decided to suspend all mass activities that take place in Santiago and surrounding areas, which incidentally includes professional football meetings in all its categories." Before suspending the matches, the Colo Colo remained in second place in the standings.

Boca Juniors

The Argentine team is also the only one in their country that has not gone to the second division, a record it has held since 2015, when they managed to be 37,312 days in the first division, as the official club page recalls. Founded in 1913, it has managed to obtain the Argentine record and obtain 13 national cups; added to 33 championships in the first division. At the international level it is the second with more triumphs harvested.

Currently, the team is in technical changes because with the arrival of Jorge Amor Ameal and Juan Ramón Riquelme to the team leadership, Miguel Ángel Russo is expected to become the technical director again. Russo led the team and with him they managed to obtain the 2007 Copa Libertadores. However, according to As, other names that would sound for the technical direction are “Jorge Almirón, Eduardo Domínguez, Sebastián Battaglia and José Néstor Pékerman”.

Barcelona Sporting Club

The name 'Barcelona' not only reaps triumphs in Spain or in Europe. The Ecuadorian club, Barcelona Sporting Club, is also a source of pride in their country. Founded in 1925, throughout its history in Ecuadorian football it has managed to be in first place 15 times within the league of its country.

Flamengo

The Brazilian team is one of three that has not descended in the first division, along with Sao Paulo and Santos. The last champion of the Copa Libertadores, after the game match in which they defeated River Plate in the final minutes of the championship, stood out because in 2009 he became one of the only teams to achieve a thousand matches in the Brazilian tournament.

Deportivo Cali

Like Flamengo, Deportivo Cali is not the only team that has not descended to the second division, since Independiente Santa Fe, Millonarios, Junior, Atlético Nacional, Independiente Medellín, and Once Caldas have also remained in the first division.

It should be noted that the second Colombian division was created in 1991 "so many clubs did not descend but did play in amateur leagues since they disenrolled from the First A", as indicated 24 hours.
