What was the situation?

Salbutamol, despite being a bronchodilator medication used by asthmatics and people with respiratory problems, has a daily limit of 1000 nanograms per milliliter. According to the newspaper El País, the sample of Chris Froome doubled this amount with a result of 2,000ng / ml.

The defense of the runner and his team is to ensure that the runner had an asthma attack during the test. "My asthma got worse in the Vuelta, so I followed the advice of the team doctor to increase my dose of Salbutamol," says Froome.

However, today the International Cycling Union decided to close the procedure open to the British based on information provided by the World Anti-Doping Agency, so that the cyclist will be able to compete in the French round starting this Saturday .

"The UCI has considered all relevant evidence in detail, in consultation with its own experts and experts from the Anti-Doping Agency." On June 28, this agency informed the International Cycling Union would accept, based on the specific facts of the case, that the result of the Froome sample does not constitute an adverse analytical finding".

Why was this decision taken?

An old motto of French cycling is that no cyclist is bigger than the Tour de France. That is why, by establishing their moral and ethical compass as whiter than white, any scandal or act that calls IGNORE INTO question this mission can be disappointing.

This case, according to data from the Guardian newspaper, recalls the case of Armstrong in 2009. After his return, the tour decided to receive him with open arms and eliminate all suspicion. For the organizers, Armstrong represented guaranteed income; however, when three years later it was discovered that his career was surrounded by doping and the Tour recognized having ignored the facts, new sensitivities have been awakened.

This is why, although Froome was favored, the decision of ASO responded to commercial and ethical realities. In fact, Bernard Hinault, one of the best cyclists in history, said that the participation of Froome in the turn of Italy should never have been allowed and called a squad in case the cyclist was allowed to take part in the Tour.

Now that the champion of cycling has been acquitted he will be able to fulfill his dream of being five times champion of the turn and join the list of greats who have achieved this feat. Through a message on the social network Twitter, Froome pronounced himself before the decision: "Thankful and relieved to have left this chapter behind, it has been nine exciting months. Thanks to all those who have supported me and have believed in me."
