There is less than a month left to start the U-20 World Cup in Argentina and in the classified Latin American countries there is concern about the confirmed casualties for the tournament and those that could become a reality in the coming days. Unlike the Senior World Cup or the FIFA dates, the clubs that own the rights of the players are not obliged to lend them to the National Teams.

During the U-20 World Cup draw, Jaime Yerza, Fifa's Competition Director, explained that "clubs are not obliged to give up their players for the U-20 World Cup". However, the Football Federations can manage with the teams the loan of the footballers for the competition. Before presenting the official list of 21 players, each Selection works with the clubs for the loans of the soccer players. However, it is already known that there are several teams, especially European ones, that have said no because the tournament will take place in the final stretch of the season, so sports performance could be affected.

Argentina

The local team is perhaps one of the most affected Latin American countries with the absence of some important footballers. From Europe, it was confirmed that Real Madrid will not give up Nico Paz, since the Spanish club wants him to help Castilla in the final stretch of the season. It is a similar case for Alejandro Garnacho, a Manchester United player, who would not be in the World Cup either due to the team's refusal. Although in Argentina, it is rumored that the player will try to convince his coach, Erik ten Hag, to let him participate in the contest.

Facundo Bounanotte will not be part of the squad directed by Javier Mascherano either, since Brighton did not agree to give him up, despite the fact that his will is to go with the National Team. This was confirmed by his agent Roberto San Juan in dialogue with DSports Radio.

Brazil

Despite not being official, 16-year-old Endrick Felipe, a Real Madrid player on loan in Palmeiras, would not be there to play in the World Cup. This happens regardless of whether they were in the last call for the Brazilian National Team to play a series of friendlies in Europe before starting their participation in the championship.

Colombia

Héctor Cárdenas and his coaching staff are waiting for some players who have not yet been confirmed to be part of the squad for the World Cup. Asher Asprilla, from Watford, and Jhon Jader Durán, from Aston Villa, are the main doubts that the coaching staff of the National Team have, although contacts with the clubs have been confirmed to be able to count on the footballers.

Another sensitive loss that Colombia could have is that of Óscar Cortés, a player from Millonarios. According to the Colombian press, he would not be transferred for the contest due to his importance with the team and the final matches that the club has in the Copa Sudamericana and Liga Betplay.

Uruguay

The Uruguayan Football Federation reported through a statement that the second scorer that Uruguay had in the South American Cup played in Colombia, Álvaro Rodríguez, will not be part of the U-20 World Cup. The reason is that Real Madrid did not give permission for the attacker to integrate the staff that will be in Argentina.

It is expected that the participating teams in the U-20 World Cup in Argentina will begin to give their squad list starting next week. Some Federations are still waiting for the response from the clubs and thus find out whether they will be able to count on the footballers who are called to be figures in this competition. The truth is that by not being able to count on several of its top stars, the competition could lose a great level of competition, an aspect that FIFA would have to review for the following official competitions of these lower categories.
