Several of these work rights have been achieved in the countries through social struggles and unions. What is precisely remembered every May 1st was the violent repression against the workers of the McCormick factory in Chicago in 1886. The employees asked for better working conditions in the face of an 18-hour day. The police shot 6 workers and many dozen others were injured. Since then, the union struggle is remembered every May 1st.
