Ana de Armas, Jenna Ortega, Danny Ramirez, or Anya Taylor-Joy. All of these are names that you've surely heard at least once, and all of these are Latino celebrities or of Latino descent who are making waves for their wonderful work. This is how Latin American representation is increasingly important in Hollywood.

Why are there more Latinos on the screen?

In recent years, cultural representation in the audiovisual industry has grown rapidly. This responds to a collective change of mentality that demands that minorities be taken into account, not only in the diversity of actors and actresses that participate in the projects, but also in how the project develops at an argumentative level. We see more stories of people from different backgrounds.

This also responds to a social need, which is very much in line with the fact that there is a new generation of young people and adolescents between the ages of 15 and 34, children of a large wave of migrants in the last 60 years. In addition, according to data from the Pew Research Center, today more than half of the migrants in the United States come from Latin America, especially from Mexico and Central American countries. It is not surprising then that one of the cultures that is being represented the most in the world of entertainment is Latin America.

Celebrities you can't lose track of this 2023

Perhaps, two of the Latino names that resonated the most in 2022 were Jenna Ortega for her leading role in "Merlina" and Ana de Armas for her portrayal of Marilyn Monroe in "Blonde." These two actresses had been reaping fruits for several years now, until 2022 smiled at them and put them under the lens of much of the world.

2023 may be the year of opportunity for a few other actors and actresses of Latino origin. Among some of the names that resonate the most we have, for example, Xochitl Gomez, an actress who in 2022 gained more recognition for playing América Chávez in the MCU film "Doctor Strange in the multiverse of madness." Most likely, we will see her in many of the new Marvel productions, but for now she has secured her position in "Avengers: The Kang Dynasty", which will be released in 2025.

Danny Ramirez also gained more recognition last year thanks to his participation in "Top Gun: Maverick," in which he played Lt. Mickey "Fanboy" Garcia. In his list of projects he has another 4, and he is also part of the MCU, so his career can be devoted to Marvel. Ramirez was born in the United States, but is of Colombian and Mexican descent.

Rachel Zegler is a name that cannot be missing here. The American of Colombian descent played María in Steven Spielberg's "West Side Story", which led her to win the award for best actress in a musical or comedy film at the Golden Globes in 2022. Among her projects are the protagonist of the live action of the Disney classic, "Snow White", and also in the adaptation of "The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes", which will be released in November 2023.

Diego Calva, a Mexican actor, started 2023 with great force despite not having won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy or Musical, an award for which he was nominated for his participation in "Babylon", a film directed by Damien Chazelleen. However, this nomination may mean that this 2023 receives many projects on his plate.

We will have to see how the career of these Latino actors and actresses who are already taking their talent by storm progresses.
