Here, we summarize the most important of this week in matters of politics, environment and sport. On the one hand, Maduro participates in the UN Assembly to ask that the economic blockade be lifted. The Haitian crisis on the US border continues. Iván Duque, to the surprise of many, won an environmental award this week. And, finally, James's departure to Qatar was confirmed. All these news summarized here and told in detail in other of our articles.

Maduro virtually participates in the UN Assembly for fear of being detained

Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro asked the United States and the European Union to permanently lift the economic sanctions that they have imposed on the regime. The president's intervention was carried out in a virtual way with a pre-recorded video, because the Caribbean president fears that he will be detained by North American authorities when traveling to New York (headquarters of the United Nations General Assembly) due to an arrest warrant in force by American justice.

This week the heads of state and government of the member countries of the United Nations delivered their speeches under the framework of the UN General Assembly that takes place this week. It was also known, thanks to the Reuters agency, that the regime that today controls Afghanistan sent a letter to the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, to allow them to give a speech. The problem is that in order to participate in the United Nations, the country and the Government must be recognized by the organization.

US envoy in Haiti resigns

A new blow to the immigration policy of US President Joe Biden. Daniel Foote, Washington envoy in Haiti, resigned in protest at the deportation of Haitian migrants in what is seen as one of the worst immigration crises in the current administration. The former official stated in his resignation letter that Washington's current policy with Haiti is inadequate and described it as inhumane.

Since last Sunday, September 18, more than 1,400 Haitians have already been sent to their country by the Government of President Biden. This has left controversial images of the white men of the border patrol "hunting" on horseback and with ties to Haitians at the border, an image that is reminiscent of the country's slave-owning past.

Iván Duque received environmental award

On September 21, the Rainforest Trust organization presented the ICCF Teddy Roosevelt Institute's International Conservation Award to the President of Colombia, Iván Duque. According to Jame Deutsch, head of the organization, the award is given for Duque's “visionary ambition” in expanding the country's protected areas. Because of this, the organization made a delivery of 15 million dollars over a period of 5 years for you to continue expanding.

All this happens within the framework of discontent on the part of civil and national environmental organizations concerned about the slowing down of the entry into the Escazú Agreement, and the concern generated by the fact that the country is at the top of the list of countries with more environmental defenders killed from Global Witness.

“I like the whole culture a lot, this is a football that is growing a lot. Next year is the World Cup and they are growing, I can grow with them too. I'm going to be able to play and I'm going to have a rhythm ”. James said regarding his new home.
