After the success of The Mandalorian, Disney decided to bet on the serial format. The adaptation of the film trilogy had its highs and lows, but it is clear that this new version really suits the saga.

For this reason, during Investor Day 2020, Disney announced new content related to the Star Wars franchise. There will be about 9 new series (to be added to the current The Mandalorian), in addition to two movies that sound very interesting. Let's see how George Lucas's universe will expand.

The new Star Wars series and movies

We already knew a little about what will be released, but Disney added some quality information. Other titles appeared that were not in anyone's orbit.

We will start talking about one of the most anticipated that already had its confirmation on the Disney agenda. We refer to the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, which takes place 10 years after the events of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. In addition to having Ewan McGregor in the title role, Hayden Christensen will once again play the iconic Anakin Skywalker, this time as his alter ego, Darth Vader.

Another of the most interesting productions of the franchise is that of the Ahsoka Tano series. It is a spin-off that will be located at the same time as The Mandalorian, where we already saw that the character appeared in an episode, played by Rosario Dawson. That is, the stories will be interconnected.

We already knew that a series was being prepared on the character of Cassian Andor, but now we also have more details. With about 12 confirmed episodes, it will be the prequel to Rogue One, which will star Diego Luna. That is, it will be located before the events of Rogue One, after Episode III.

That's not all. Knowing that the new saga of films will probably be located in the era of the High Republic (hundreds of years before Episode I), from Disney they decided to start covering these events through a series. We are talking about The Acolyte, it will have a distinctive touch, since, for the first time, it will touch the genres of suspense and mystery, being a project by the filmmaker Leslye Headland.

The list of series is completed with Star Wars:The Bad Batch, an animated continuation of a squad of clones after the events of Episode III (continuing the legacy of The Clone Wars); another spin-off of The Mandalorian, known as Rangers of the New Republic; a series based on the character of Lando, probably in his youth; an animated series of droids, with the return of C-3PO and R2-D2; and an anthology series that surprised everyone, as it will be presented in anime style, which will be known as Star Wars Vision.

Finally, we must not omit that various announcements were also made on the cinematographic level. The first and foremost is the confirmation of Star Wars: Rogue Squadron, a movie about fighter pilots that will have, for the first time, a female director in the franchise: Patty Jenkins, who directed Wonder Woman 1984.

In addition to this confirmation, it was announced that the project for a Star Wars film directed by Taika Waititi continues, although without giving too many details. After directing a chapter of The Mandalorian, Disney was fascinated with the work of this director who had enormous achievements in films like Thor: Ragnarok or Jojo Rabbit.

The list of premieres is as follows:

  • Star Wars: Rangers of the New Republic
  • Star Wars: Ahsoka
  • Star Wars: Andor
  • Star Wars: Obi-Wan Kenobi
  • Star Wars: The Bad Batch
  • Star wars: vision
  • Star Wars: Lando
  • Star Wars: The Acolyte
  • Star Wars: A Droid Story
  • Star Wars: Rogue Squadron
  • Star Wars film directed by Taika Waititi

The universe created by George Lucas is more alive than ever!
