The body of actress Naya Rivera was found on Monday after being missing for a week after an accident in Piru Lake, near Los Angeles. Last Wednesday, Ventura County authorities reportedly found her four-year-old son asleep in a boat in the late afternoon. The boy's version is that he was swimming with his mother, who never returned to the boat. After a week of searching for her, the search team found her body. Now the official version is that Rivera would have saved her son from having the same fate as her. We mourn the death of a woman whose character inspired a generation and we remember her here.

Who Was Naya Rivera?

The actress was primarily known for her character Santana in the music series Glee. The series revolved around the choral group of a high school in the state of Ohio. For many, it marked a milestone regarding gay representation on television: she was one of the main characters, one of the popular ones at school, and she was a lesbian. Sanatana, in addition, was out of any convention or commonplace and was a character who helped break stereotypes in the adolescence of many. We will remember her voice and her interpretation of many songs during the six seasons that the series lasted in which she, unlike many other characters, always participated.

Her body was found on July 13, 2020, exactly seven years after Cory Monteith, who played Finn in the series and with whom the character of Santana shared many moments, was also found in a hotel room dead of an overdose of alcohol and heroin. At that time, the series was still filming and the production of the fifth season had to be postponed. The series paid tribute to Monteith and Finn's character in the third episode of that fifth season, called The Quarterback.

Mark Salling, who played Puck, who for some seasons was a boyfriend of Santana's character, is another one of the Glee characters who have passed away at an early age. He was found dead from drowning hanging from a tree near his home in January 2018 , after being convicted of possession of child pornography the year before.

In addition to Glee, Naya Rivera worked on the CBS comedy "The Royal Family", in the movie "The master of Disguise" and in the series "Step up". Two days before her disappearance, she had published a photo of her and her son with the phrase: "just the two of us."

Her friends say goodbye

Several of her friends and colleagues from the cast of Glee have mourned her death on social networks and wanted to say goodbye to her and pay tribute to her with posts on Twitter and Instagram. Without a doubt, she will be remembered by a whole generation.

How can you convey all your love and respect for someone in one post? How can you summarize a decade of friendship and laughter with words alone? If you were friends with Naya Rivera, you simply can’t. Her brilliance and humor were unmatched. Her beauty and talent were otherworldly. She spoke truth to power with poise and fearlessness. She could turn a bad day into a great day with a single remark. She inspired and uplifted people without even trying. Being close to her was both a badge of honor and a suit of armor. Naya was truly one of a kind, and she always will be. Sending all my love to her wonderful family and her beautiful son.
