Cases of violence

The daily Marca, of Colombia, remembers that in 1989 the Colombian League was deserted as a result of the murder of the referee Álvaro Ortega, also that Brazil sent to a selection B, and Argentina did not attend the edition of the Copa América Colombia 2001, by the constant kidnappings and extortions that occurred in the coffee country.

The violence has two popular cases in the south of the continent, in 2003 in Argentina, the sixth date of the Opening was suspended by a court order that prevented the federal police from being in the security operations of the Buenos Aires stadiums. Finally, in 2017, it was Uruguay that paralyzed their championship due to the fact that two referees were attacked, after a match in the U19 category.

However, cases of violence can be treated or fought, but this is not the case with natural factors, diseases or terrorist attacks.

Affected Olympic Games

On the other hand, the Omicrono portal has a list of similar events, including three Olympic Games, which were canceled for reasons related to the First and Second World War, while others suffered changes of venue due to diseases such as Ebola, SARS and the already mentioned Zika.

Berlin 1916 and Helsinki 1940

In 1914 the first World War broke out, in which the German Empire participated actively, so two years later they were not in a position to host the Olympics that had been designated to Berlin. This edition was initially granted to Japan, but the Second Sino-Japanese War prevented it and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided on Helsinki, a city that could not host it either because of the outbreak of World War II. Something similar happened to London in 1944, but this time, it could have been in 1948 when the wars had ceased.

Ends the aforementioned portal mentioning cases such as foot-and-mouth disease, in Britain in 200 1, a viral illness with strong symptoms, which caused that two days of the Irish league, the Rally of Wales and a rugby game between England were suspended and Scotland, and Ebola, which toured Africa in 2015 and which caused Morocco to lose its African Cup of Nations venue for refusing to hold it in time, asking to wait for the effects of the disease to pass.
