From the stage to the catwalk: 3 singers who are also fashion designers

Rihanna launched the new fall / winter collection of her lingerie line SavagexFenty this September 12 at the closing of the New York Fashion Week. This line of lingerie is concerned with making underwear that women of all ages and sizes feel comfortable with.

The idea is that the sensuality of lingerie should not be uncomfortable or create complexes, but rather make any type of woman feel beautiful. Rihanna has shown great concern to end stereotypes and pressures on how a woman's body should be.

She was victim of much criticism last year because she gained weight. She responded strongly to these criticisms in her social media accounts and now she does it with this collection.

This, however, was not the singer's debut as a fashion designer. Before, she had more encounters with this other profession, which lately she dedicates more time and effort to than music.

Rihanna is undoubtedly a fashion icon. It is a reference for many influencers and models that impose trends. She changes her look frequently and reinvents her style oftenly. This has led her to participate as a model in the spring / summer campaign of Balmain in 2014, in the limited edition of Gucci with UNICEF in 2008, and to be the first black woman to be the official image of Dior.

Her first contact with the profession of fashion designer was in 2011 when she launched her first collection for the Armani brand and her song 'Skin' was chosen for two campaigns of the design house.

According to Vogue UK, this was her debut as a designer and focused on t-shirts and jean pieces. Then, in 2013 she teamed up with her stylist and designer Adam Selman to launch a collection for the River Island brand.

Since 2014, she has been the creative director of Puma and since then she has already launched several tennis collections that, according to Vogue, have been sold out in less than 35 minutes in the online store. In 2016, together with Manolo Blahnik, she was the brain of a jean line.

That same year, she opened her collection of futuristic sunglasses for Dior. She has also collaborated with Stance in the design of socks and stockings.

Finally, the singer has also collaborated in the development and design of other accessories. Some time ago, she launched her own line of beauty products, Fenty Beauty, which already has several collections and has sold out online.

It has six fragrances with her name: Reb'l, Reb'l Fleur, Nude, Rogue, Rogue Man and RiRi. According to Vogue, Reb'l sold 80 million dollars in its first year. Last year, she partnered with the Chopard jewelry brand to launch the RIHANNA ♥ CHOPARD collection designed by her.

Kanye West

This rapper loves to embark on new projects and invent new professions for himself. His first and biggest contact with fashion design is with footwear. In 2009, he launched his own tennis shoes for Nike: the Air Yeezys.

After this, he collaborated with several brands for men's footwear collections: Louis Vuitton (at Paris Fashion Week 2009), Bape, Giuseppe Zanotti, and Fendi. Then, in 2013, West found his definitive ally: Adidas.

With this brand he has already launched 5 collections of his Yeezy Boosts, which he has released at times simultaneously with some of his albums, for which they have sold out in minutes.

The rapper has also designed other garments. In 2011, he collaborated with M / M Paris in a collection of scarves. That same year, he launched his own brand of women's clothing that was called DW Kanye West and had mixed reviews, mostly negative.

This brand only had two collections. Last year, he launched with his wife Kim Kardashian a brand of children's clothing that already has two collections: The Kids Supply.

J Balvin

Like Rihanna, J Balvin began as an influence on fashion before moving on to design. Like the singer, Balvin usually changes a lot his look, the color of his hair, and he wears out-of-the-box outfits.

This year, he collaborated with the French brand GEF to launch the JBalvinxGef collection, which includes merchandising from his Vibras tour and also sportswear that the same singer usually uses at concerts. This line was launched while the tour was taking place, which is, as we see, a very good marketing strategy for these collections that bear the name of the most listened artists in the world.

While this is just the artist's debut in the fashion world, Balvin promises more in what he has called his second passion.
