Today the world is even closer to a conflict of unthinkable magnitude, all this, due to the official visit currently being made by Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the United States House of Representatives, to Taiwan. This, because the small island that functions as an independent country, but that China claims as its own.

Pelosi's official visit has led the Chinese government to even announce military operations and exercises near the island, which can be read as an escalation of relations. A few days ago, the US Navy had also announced that several of its own warships were sailing in Taiwanese waters.

For its part, the third in the hierarchy in American democracy (just behind the president and vice president) assured upon arrival that "our delegation's visit to Taiwan honors the unwavering commitment of the United States to support vibrant Taiwanese democracy." .

China and Taiwan were once part of the same country, but after Mao Zedong's Chinese revolution, those loyal to Chiang Kai-shek's republican faction, seeing the advance of the communist army, fled to Taiwan. Since then, the island has maintained a democracy and an independent administration from mainland China, but neither side declared independence. This is why, to this day, neither China nor Taiwan itself have recognized two countries, although it is true that the Chinese communist regime looks forward to the time when they can annex this territory again.
