The great outdoors

When I was 10, my family moved to Kansas, a state known for being flat and growing a lot of corn. It has a population of almost three million. I hated it. I grew up in Chicago. I missed laughing with my friends at school, jogging along the lakeshore, and the noise of the city.

A year after moving to Kansas, we went to California for summer vacation. I saw the ocean for the first time! It was amazing. My siblings and I would spend hours outdoors, chasing each other and digging in the sand. At night, we would lay on the beach, gaze at the stars, and listen to the crashing waves. I never wanted to leave.

Now, I am starting my junior year of high school. I have new friends and enjoy the calm and quiet life of a small town. I love hiding in the tall corn fields and watching the birds. If you never spend time outside away from noisy cities, I highly recommend it.
