Un incendio provocado al parecer por reos en un intento de fuga, causó la muerte de 32 reclusos en una cárcel de la provincia de Santiago del Estero, confirmaron ayer las autoridades del penal.
El juez Roberto Tarcchini Saavedra, que investiga el siniestro, difundió la nómina de víctimas por intermedio del Hospital Regional de esta capital provincial, en un informe que consigna, junto al nombre de varias de las víctimas, los delitos por los que estaban detenidos.

En la mañana de ayer continuaban los incidentes, pero en otro pabellón del penal, el número 3, donde otro grupo de presos también incendió colchones y ropas.
Previamente, el ministro de Justicia provincial, Ricardo Daives, había informado a la agencia gubernamental Télam que ''si bien hay 29 muertos registrados, hay versiones de que podría haber uno o dos más fallecidos'' a raíz del incendio, que estalló el domingo en la tarde provocado por los presos.
El Cuerpo Médico Forense provincial informó que recibió 30 cuerpos de presos muertos durante el incendio, a los que se les estaba practicando las correspondientes autopsias.
Sin precisar sus fuentes, el matutino El Liberal de la capital provincial, a 1,150 kilómetros al noroeste, informó ayer que el número de muertos ascendía a 39 y que casi todos murieron quemados o asfixiados. La versión no pudo ser confirmada de inmediato en fuentes oficiales.
Un número no determinados de reclusos y de guardiacárceles fueron llevados a hospitales para ser atendidos por quemaduras y principios de asfixia.
Rodolfo Camaño, director del penal, que alberga a 467 reclusos, informó a la prensa que ``se trató de un motín con intento de fuga que se originó en el pabellón 2, donde había 42 internos procesados, ninguno de los cuales consiguió fugarse''.
